Many historical accounts credit James Herbert Lorrain and Frederick William Savidge with composing the very first hymns around 1896 to 1897, even before the first Mizo converts were baptized. Among these early attempts, a hymn titled "Isua chu mi rorrel khawm a ni" or variations of early translated verses are cited.
