This is the most common cause. If you are trying to restore to an older iOS version (such as iOS 9.3.5 or 9.3.6) that Apple has stopped signing, 3uTools will inevitably fail at the point when it tries to request SHSH from Apple's servers. Look at the firmware list. Versions highlighted in are currently signed and can be flashed freely. Versions in Red are unsigned. Use command-line tsschecker (from tihmstar)
