The story centers on Nick Bali (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), an American expat PI who specializes in cases of jealousy. He is hired by Penelope Vardas (Shailene Woodley) to investigate the "accidental" death of her brother-in-law, Elias. As Nick digs deeper into the lives of the wealthy Vardas family, he finds himself entangled in a web of lies, ancient Greek parallels, and his own personal demons.
