The top of a dam or spillway is rarely smooth. It has construction joints, cracks, roughness elements, and erosion scars. Flow-3D’s (Fractional Area/Volume Obstacle Representation) allows engineers to import real LiDAR scans or CAD models of a cracked crest without time-consuming mesh conforming. The porosity of the crack itself can be modeled, simulating water being injected into the crack top under extreme pressure.
