The film was based on the 1984 book Fire in the Valley: The Making of the Personal Computer by Paul Freiberger and Michael Swaine. Writer and director Martyn Burke, alongside his researchers, spent six months digging through old computer magazines, books, and newspapers, and even visiting computer museums to ensure accuracy. The result is a film that, while taking some poetic license, is considered by many, including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, to be surprisingly close to the mark. Wozniak himself praised the film, stating, "One of the things is, yes, it not only captures inside of Steve Jobs.
