Taiko Risshiden V was originally released in 2004 as the fifth main entry in the series. It was lauded for its open-ended nature, allowing players to assume the role of historical figures like the unifier Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the daimyo Oda Nobunaga, or even fictional characters created by the player. The "DX" (Deluxe) version, released nearly two decades later, is an effort to bring this classic to modern hardware. Unlike full remakes, the DX version preserves the core aesthetic and engine of the original while updating the user interface, controller support, and resolution compatibility for contemporary screens.
