Gar328

If you are administering a legacy SafeNet Luna SA 5.1 hardware security module (HSM) and receive a “GAR328 mismatch” during firmware upgrade, it indicates that the downloaded image has been corrupted in transit or the EDC calculation routine in the bootloader has itself been compromised. The solution is to re-download the firmware from a known-good source and verify the SHA-256 hash before attempting the upgrade. Do not bypass the GAR328 check; doing so can brick the HSM permanently.

Pilots and aircraft maintenance engineers may recognize as a sub-component of the Garmin GNS 430/530 series of GPS/NAV/COMM units. Specifically, GAR328 refers to a backplane interconnecting board that handles data translation between the main processor (GAR327) and the COM radio module. gar328
